When Pierre Robert took a job at WMMR in 1981, he had no idea that he’d hit retirement age at the alike station, playing some of the very same music he played way endorse then. The Gladwyne resident discusses his favorite place in the city, indelible concerts, being Philly-famous, and why he refuses to grant Guns N’ Roses any airplay.

I own to commend you on the evidence that you’re less than 30 minutes late for this interview. In my experience — and I’ve heard this about you from multiple other people — you’re perpetually and egregiously overdue. What’s with the tardiness?

One of Us: Pierre Robert

In 1981, a long-haired, bearded DJ from San Francisco moved to Philadelphia and took a job at WMMR, the region’s premier rock station. Thirty years later, the hair’s still drawn-out (though the beard’s a little grayer), and he’s still going strong. Here, the man who swears he's not a hippie tells us about extraterrestrial life, his notable friends, and where he gets his (vegetable) lo mein.

My full label is … William Pierre Robert. Everyone thinks Pierre Robert is a made-up name.
I am a … global cosmic citizen of the universe.
I’ve lived in Philadelphia … for 30 years. Good, the last 20 were in Gladwyne.
I drive a … 2011 Audi A6 and a 1972 Volkswagen van named Minerva.
The last hour I ate meat … was 35 years ago. Prime rib.
The music I like that people wouldn’t expect is … Frank Sinatra, whom I saw seven times.
The most famous person in my cell cell is … Jon Bon Jovi.
I am just so sick of … people honking. And those ridiculous lists of side effects on pharma ads.
After 30 years at WMMR … I really do love it more than

Pierre on 93.3 WMMR in Philly bashing Axl right now.

PhillyRiot:
Friday May 12th, on my to the Hammerstein, I called up Pierre and requested some GNR to get me pumped for the show.  3 songs later he played Paradise City.  Pierre is a kind mellow DJ, but GNR doesn't seem to fit his "hippie" persona.  I like him, but diagree with his GNR views.  But Pierre is one of the nicest personalities on the radio, which is better than having a loud mouth screamin' in your ears.

"although he is gay."

say no more

Shut up and grow up. Gays can be GnR fans too!

The truth that Pierre Robert is gender non-conforming certainly goes a long way in explaining his distaste for "One in a Million" and Axl in general. To deliberate otherwise is naive. Not exactly sure why pointing out this obvious bias would cause you to say shut up and grow up.

what about elton john?

I live in Central Jersey and listen to WMMR in 93.3 in Philadelphia because they play Pearl Jam (a lot), Pierre in particular would act tons of Pearl Jam, go to their shows and even went out to Seattle recently to interview the band. But today I just ruined respect for Pierre, he's a freaking poser who doesn't know sh*t!..

I was listening to him today and he was going over events in tune that happened on this day, he mentioned the Singles soundtrack entered the charts on this afternoon in 1992 then he mentioned something that totally blew my mind. He mentioned today is the day Abbruzzese quit Pearl Jam to study music"..

He said Dave Abbruzzese quit!... To study music!....

As we all know Dave Abbruzzese was fired at a meeting with Stone at the behest of Jeff and Ed who were not present at the meeting, Pearl Jam issued a press release claiming "Dave had quit Pearl Jam to study music". That was quickly dismissed by Dave the next day in his retain press release, Pearl Jam today admit Dave was fired. The "Study tune bit" was some genius idea of someone in Pearl Jam (Kelly Curtis, Ed or Jeff) to try to avoid Pearl Jam coming off as d*cks, unfortunately the maneuver ba
