Bangkok has a reputation for organism a chaotically entertaining place to visit! A night out in Bangkok is always unforgettable—or, more likely, unremembered—and within the (in)famous Silom district you’ll detect plenty of male lover bars, clubs, saunas, and spas that justify the city’s reputation as “the Gay Capital of Asia.”

Ornate temples like Wat Arun and Wat Phra Kaew sit beneath futuristic skyscrapers, and floating markets glide along the Chao Phraya River, unconcerned to the urban throng around them. The streets themselves are always humming with energy, and the scent of sizzling street nourishment completes the Bangkok experience. Rainbow flag in Bangkok, reminding you that this is the most gay-friendly city in Asia

Foreign visitors are often surprised to come across a number of bars and clubs in Bangkok catering exclusively to the gay crowd, but the city is Asia’s most trendy gay destination. Thai society remains conservative, but has a relaxed attitude to homosexuality. Public displays of affection are frowned upon (for both gay and straight couples), but on the streets off Silom Highway, by the renowned Patpong night market, gay tourists and locals mix openly by a number of open-air bars lining Soi 4, the city’s “pinkest” street, which is really a petty alley. Don’t display up before 8pm, but any moment after that just pick an free table at any of the bars and watch the gay world travel by. It’s quite easy to acquire to, just a short walk from the Sala Daeng station of the BTS Skytrain.

Bangkok is also established as one of the world’s most transgender-friendly cities, with a visible transitioned population. Thailand is one of the leading countries for sex-reassignment surgery, and cabaret shows of trans women (which you’ll see referred to as “ladyboys”) are wildly popular.

The gay scene in Bangkok is a lot of fun! It is open to all and you can guarantee a great night out every single evening. We loved making Bangkok our “home” base during our long trip in Asia and ended up spending many, many nights hanging out in the same-sex attracted bars of Silom with both straight and lgbtq+ friends.

The gay bars are mainly based around a small street called Silom Soi 4. Just around the corner on Silom Soi 2 are the main gay clubs, including DJ Station. Here’s a summary of our 5 favourites:

1. Balcony Pub and Telephone Pub

This is the beating heart of the gay scene in Bangkok. Balcony and Telephone are like the staple of the gay scene in Bangkok. They’ve been around for years and everyone knows them.

They are in fact 2 different enormous bars, but they’ve grow so interconnected that you associate the Silom queer scene with these two.

They are set up with tables and chairs facing the
