For any fan of Broadway, Gavin Creel is certainly a designate you will grasp. From Thoroughly New Millie to She Loves Me and Waitress, The Novel of Mormon, and his Tony winning performance in Hello, Dolly!, Creel has cemented himself firmly in the American Musical Theatre canon. For his latest role, he has taken a shift to the darker side in American Horror Stories, a new anthology series on FX based on the beloved series.
I caught up with Creel by phone to chat about the modern show, his like of playing gay characters, and the kiss that made Theatre Twitter explode. Our conversation has been edited for clarity and length.
Oh Gavin, Gavin, Gavin. You in this series deliver a truly insane production, but I must first ask: does the casting of you and Aaron Tveit confirm that Ryan Murphy sits at home and watches MCC’s Miscast all night distant on YouTube fancy the rest of us?
*Haha* Oh I don’t know Kobi, I haven’t talked to Ryan about any of that but I will say Aaron and I have had so much enjoyable with them. We had no thought it was going to get so much attention. We were actually out in L

"Aaron Tveit on His Princely Role in 'One Royal Holiday' & Hopes for a Sequel"
Yes, this Christmas production premieres on Halloween. But once you see the chemistry between Broadway faves — and longtime friends — Laura Osnes and Aaron Tveit in One Royal Holiday, Tveit's romantic Countdown to Christmas debut, you’ll understand why. And, just like the two stars, we hoping it's the start of a Hallmark Channel franchise
“We started joking about that the first day,” Tveit says. “The next one could be One Royal Wedding. One Royal Baby..." (They’ll have to approach up with new duets too — here, they sing Winter Wonderland for the opening credits.)
Tveit plays buttoned-up James, who’s stranded in snowy New England days before Christmas. Sympathetic nurse Anna (Osnes), unaware he’s the Crown Prince of Galwick, offers him and his mother (Tony winner Victoria Clark) rooms at her family’s Connecticut inn. While reclining by the tree and taking an impromptu carriage ride, James and the unlucky-in-love Anna behind open up to each other, and he finds inspiration for the heartfelt holiday address he must deliver to his people.
The actor — who earlier this month scored his first
